MUMBAI, June 16 -- After the recent attacks on three ships amid the West Asia conflict - MT Marivex, MT Settebello and MT Jalveer - the Directorate General of Shipping has issued an advisory to shipping companies, and recruitment and placement companies, urging them to restrict deployment of Indian seafarers to conflict areas. The advisory, issued on Saturday, says companies may carry out a crew change in emergency situations with the consent of crew members. Seafarers too have been told to avoid circulating fake news and videos that may cause alarm. Recent developments in the Gulf region, particularly in and around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, have resulted in multiple security incidents involving merchant vessels carrying Indian seafarers. The advisory says that masters of vessels operating in or transiting through the Gulf region, including the Strait of Hormuz and adjoining waters, must remain alert and implement security measures....
