MUMBAI, Sept. 23 -- The Election Commission of India has announced biennial elections to five Maharashtra legislative council seats from the graduates' and teachers' constituencies to be held on October 23. The results will be announced on October 27. The elections will be held for the Aurangabad, Pune and Nagpur Graduates' constituencies, and the Amravati and Pune Teachers' constituencies. The terms of the sitting members expire on December 6. The last date for filing nominations is October 6, while the last day for withdrawal is October 9. The elections will see contests between the BJP-led Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), with seat-sharing likely to be a key issue within both alliances. Within the Mahayuti, the NCP is expected to seek the Aurangabad Graduates' seat, while the BJP is likely to contest the Nagpur and Pune Graduates' seats.
