Cost doubts stall Rs.19-crore Coastal Road roof project
Mumbai, March 11 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) standing committee on Wednesday deferred a Rs.19-crore proposal to construct roofing over a pedestrian underpass at the Coastal Road promenade, seeking clarification from the civic administration over discrepancies in project costs.
Corporators across party lines raised questions about variations in the estimated cost, saying the proposal had several lapses and required further explanation before approval. The committee head Prabhakar Shinde requested specific details and further clarification from the civic administration to justify the expenditure. The proposal has been sent back to the administration and is expected to be discussed again next week.
The roofing plan is part of the broader infrastructure and beautification work linked to the 10.58-km Coastal Road project.
Apart from the roofing, the proposal also includes uniform footpaths, cycling tracks, and landscaping along the promenade....
