cops record IIT-B professor's statement in suicide case
MUMBAI, Oct. 3 -- The Mumbai Police crime branch on Thursday questioned IIT Bombay professor Suryanarayana Doolla for around 10 hours and recorded his statement in connection with the alleged abetment of suicide of a 20-year-old student on September 18.
The student's parents have accused Doolla of harassment and caste-based discrimination. Police said they have so far recorded statements from around 40 people, including students, the deceased's friends, and institute and hostel staff.
Meanwhile, IIT Bombay students protesting for the past 15 days began a two-day hunger strike at the institute on Friday, demanding action from the institute. The protest follows the student's death and comes amid continued agitation by the family at Azad Maidan.
