MUMBAI, Oct. 6 -- Tribal students marching from Nashik to Mumbai to demand basic facilities in tribal schools and hostels were detained by police late Sunday night. One group was stopped in Navi Mumbai, while two others were detained after police entered Congress party offices where the students had halted. The action sparked outrage, with protesters accusing the government of trying to prevent them from reaching Azad Maidan. Police also barricaded Tilak Bhavan, the Congress headquarters and adjoining roads. Rahul Gandhi also slammed the police action, pointing out that the police entered Tilak Bhavan and took them away even before their protest could begin.
