CAG report warns state over Ladki Bahin spends
MUMBAI, July 11 -- The mammoth spends on the Ladki Bahin scheme could affect the state government's fiscal sustainability, a report tabled by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has warned. The report has also flagged the growing off-budget borrowings, mounting liabilities and large amounts of unspent funds parked outside the consolidated fund.
CAG's report, tabled in the state legislature on the concluding day of the monsoon session on Friday, on state finances for 2024-25, noted that the state recorded a revenue deficit of Rs.29,994.76 crore, fiscal deficit of Rs.1.24 lakh crore and outstanding liabilities of Rs.8.63 lakh crore.
"A key factor behind the surge in expenditure was the Ladki Bahin scheme, which led to a surge in the women welfare budget from Rs.261.78 crore in 2023-24 to Rs.33,554.36 crore in 2024-25," the report stated. P7...
