BMC says will fix cracks on GMLR
MUMBAI, July 25 -- Cracks that appeared in panels and beams of the Ghatkopar Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR) flyover were caused by subsidence due to tunnelling for an underground sewer near the approach ramp.
The admission came from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a letter received by residents of Govandi on Thursday. The residents, who had noticed the cracks and loosening of blocks on beams supporting the flyover around three months ago, had repeatedly brought this to the attention of the civic administration.
A team from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) inspected the site a month ago. Armed with an explanation, the BMC finally replied to the residents on Thursday. The BMC says repairs will be completed by next week....
