MUMBAI, Feb. 26 -- The 130-year-old Bellasis bridge in South Mumbai, a crucial east-west connector linking Tardeo, Nagpada and Mumbai Central, will be inaugurated on Thursday at 11am by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis via video conferencing. The British-era bridge, which spans busy railway tracks near Mumbai Central station, has been renamed as Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar bridge, minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced. The original structure was named after Major General John Bellasis, a senior British officer of the East India Company who served as commander-in-chief of the Bombay Artillery. The move follows the recent renaming of Carnac Bunder bridge as Sindoor bridge. Lodha added that Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state will also be renamed after Indian saints and prominent leaders. The bridge is a key artery for daily commuters travelling between South and Central Mumbai and its reopening is expected to ease traffic movement in the Tardeo-Mumbai Central corridor....
