New Delhi, June 12 -- The Trinamool Congress lost its third member in the Rajya Sabha in a week after Prakash Chik Baraik tendered his resignation to Rajya Sabha chairman CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday. On Monday, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy quit, followed by the resignation of Sushmita Dev on Wednesday, triggering a full blown crisis for Mamata Banerjee's party that lost power in West Bengal last month. TMC also faces a rebellion in the Lok Sabha as at least 16 MPs are trying to form a separate bloc in the Lower House. "I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha," Baraik wrote to Radhakrishnan. The TMC, which played an effective role in defeating the Constitution amendment bill earlier this year, faces large-scale defection in the Lower House and has been reduced to 10 MPs in the Upper House after the spate of resignations. TMC's Rajya Sabha floor leader Derek O'Brien told the media that the party tried to reach out to every MP, including Baraik, fearing resignation. Baraik however, told the party that his family member was indisposed and could not meet the party leaders. Talking to reporters outside the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nishikant Dubey later, Baraik said, "People of West Bengal have given their mandate to the BJP. The TMC did not win. Looking at the mandate given by the people of West Bengal, I am resigning from the party."
