Auto driver stabs 18-year-old after he refuses to end football game
MUMBAI, Oct. 2 -- An 18-year-old student was stabbed by an autorickshaw driver on Wednesday night following a dispute over asking youngsters to stop playing football in Malwani ground.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm near a Hanuman temple, where the victim Jaydeep Koli, was playing football with neighbourhood friends.
Police officers said that autorickshaw auto driver Sanjay Kurade arrived at the spot, parked his vehicle in the middle of the playground, and demanded the boys stop playing. Kurade also allegedly asked younger children to buy him a cigarette. When they refused, an enraged Kurade drove his rickshaw further onto the field. Koli asked him to relocate the vehicle, but Kurade allegedly ran over Koli's feet.
When Koli confronted him, Kurade verbally abused him and started assaulting him. Koli's friend, 18-year-old Aniket Kailas Gawali, intervened to break up the altercation. Kurade then retrieved a knife from his rickshaw, grabbed Koli by his T-shirt and neck, shoved him against a parked tempo, and stabbed him in the abdomen. As Kurade tried to strike his neck, Koli raised his hand in defence, sustaining serious injuries below his neck and on his upper left arm.
Bystanders intervened, forcing Kurade to flee and leave Koli bleeding. Gawali and others rushed Koli to the hospital where he remains in the ICU. The Malwani police registered an FIR for attempt-to-murder against Kurade....
