Auto and taxi drivers will have to take Marathi test
MUMBAI, April 7 -- Over 12,000 registered auto and taxi drivers operating in Mira Road and Bhayandar will have to take a Marathi language test to prove their fluency. Their permits and domicile certificates are also being scrutinized by RTO in batches to ascertain their authenticity.
On Monday, transport minister Pratap Sarnaik said the action was triggered by a complaint from BJP MLA, Narendra Mehta, who had raised concerns with CM Devendra Fadnavis about alleged irregularities in issuing licences and permits which he claimed were being hastily doled out to migrants in Mira-Bhayandar.
