Airtel hikes postpaid tariffs after 2 years
India, Oct. 8 -- India's telecom tariff battle is back in play after an over two-year lull in postpaid charge revisions. Bharti Airtel Ltd on Wednesday raised prices across postpaid plans by 3-11%, a move that could possibly trigger industry-wide hikes in the chase for higher user spends. Airtel, India's second largest telecom operator by market share, has increased its tariffs by Rs.50 across postpaid plans, also introducing free international roaming, Fast Lane technology, safety features and entertainment, the company said in a release. The new tariffs will kick in on 8 October. Airtel's move comes just weeks ahead of the expected initial public offering (IPO) of Jio Platforms, parent of Reliance Jio, the market leader by subscribers.
