After CM's assurance, water tanker operators call off strike
MUMBAI, June 10 -- The water tankers' strike that had left many parts of the city parched over the past two days was called off yesterday after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis assured the Mumbai Water Tankers' Association (MWTA) that they would not be penalised. The CM also promised to help resolve their issues by speaking to the central government.
An MWTA delegation met the CM earlier in the day, protesting the notices issued to them asking them to comply with regulations framed by the Central Ground Water Authority or face action. The delegation also met Mumbai suburban district collector Saurabh Katiyar, whose office had issued notices to tanker operators. Amol Mandhare, secretary-general, MWTA, said, "The district collector assured us that no action would be initiated against us and that we are not required to respond to the notices," Mandhare said.
