New Delhi, July 29 -- Seven more deaths have been reported on Tuesday from the flood-affected districts in Assam, raising the toll to 75. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has relaxed the norms for providing an ex-gratia to families of those dead or missing in floods this year, while announcing an additional Rs.5 lakh compensation over and above Rs.4 lakh payment to families of the deceased. According to a report for Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), all seven deaths were reported from Sibsagar, the worst affected district in this month's flooding. "We will leave no stone unturned to support our people and help them rebuild their lives," Sarma said. Meanwhile, parts of northern India were also severely hit by rain on Tuesday, triggering landslides and flash floods in the Himalayan states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast above-normal rainfall over northwest and central India in the next four to five days. In Himachal, moderate to heavy rains caused landslides in Chamba district, where about a dozen vehicles and many houses were buried in debris. However, no loss of life has been reported so far. In Uttarakhand, the Char Dham Yatra routes have been blocked at several locations due to landslides. Rains also lashed many places in Punjab and Haryana, bringing relief from the ongoing hot weather....
