7 INJURED aFTER car rams into them in Vasai
MUMBAI, March 4 -- Seven pedestrians were injured, four of them seriously, after a car allegedly went out of control and rammed into them in the Sativali area of Vasai East on Monday night, police said.
According to Waliv police, the incident took place around 10pm at Maurya Nagar when the driver, identified as Mobin Ahmed, 49, was proceeding towards Vasai.
Police said the vehicle struck seven pedestrians who were walking along the road. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. The driver also sustained minor injuries.
During preliminary questioning, Ahmed told police that he accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
However, eyewitnesses claimed the car was speeding at the time of the incident.
Residents in the area caught the driver after the vehicle stopped and handed him over to the police.
The injured pedestrians were reportedly factory workers heading towards bus stops and autorickshaw stands after work.
Police have registered a case against Ahmed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act....
