Mumbai, Sept. 21 -- Two people, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed and at least six others injured after suffering electric shocks at a cold drink stall near the Kalachowkicha Mahaganpati pandal in Lalbaug early Sunday. According to BEST officials, a wire from a faulty temporary electrical connection became entangled around a devotee's leg, causing multiple people to receive electric shocks. Eight-year-old Ragini Ghanshyam Yadav and 33-year-old Sujata were declared dead on arrival at hospital, while four other injured people were admitted in hospital and reported stable. A BEST inspection found that the temporary electricity meter registered to the mandal had been improperly installed. BEST issued the mandal a notice over the faulty installation. Pratik Rane, a representative of the mandal, said the electrocution incident did not happen in their pandal but in a neighbouring pandal where devotees had queued up for mukha darshan.
