2 docs booked in Rs.5L med insurance fraud
MUMBAI, June 5 -- Two doctors attached to a private hospital in Jogeshwari have been booked for allegedly fraudulently obtaining a Rs.5 lakh health insurance policy in the name of a former employee and claiming money for a surgery that never took place.
The complainant, Prakash Patil, a former office boy at the hospital, received a call from a hospital employee. During the conversation, the employee allegedly told Patil that one of the doctors had already procured a medical insurance policy in his name. Patil informed her that he had never applied for any medical insurance.
Suspicious of this claim,he asked her to send the insurance documents. Upon receiving the documents, he discovered that a private insurance company had indeed issued a medical insurance policy in his name, utilizing his personal details-including his date of birth and company information.
However, Patil asserted that he had never worked for the company mentioned in the documents, nor had he submitted any paperwork for insurance purposes or undergone any medical examinations.
He contacted the insurance company when he was informed that an insurance policy worth Rs.5 lakh had been issued in his name and that on January 13, 2025, he had allegedly undergone surgery at a hospital located in Kharghar under a cashless scheme.
The insurance company further revealed that a claim amount of Rs.3.56 lakh had already been processed, of which Rs.66,000 had been transferred to the hospital's bank account as a settlement.
Police said the accused allegedly used Patil's documents to obtain the policy and submit forged records to claim insurance money.
An FIR has been registered for cheating and forgery, and investigators are probing whether other hospital staff were involved....
