MUMBAI, Sept. 11 -- The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Police have booked unidentified persons for allegedly transporting seven cages containing around 2,100 birds aboard the Geetanjali Express, which arrived in Mumbai from Howrah on Tuesday. According to Saloni Rajkumar Sakaria, 33, associate manager of PETA India's Cruelty Response Team, the organisation received information that the birds were being transported to Mumbai. During an inspection of the luggage compartment, officials found that each cage contained four trays, with approximately 70 to 80 birds in each tray-around 300 birds per cage. The birds had little space to move or fly and were allegedly being kept without adequate ventilation, food or drinking water. Seven to eight birds were also found unconscious. Based on Sakaria's complaint, the CSMT GRP registered a case against unidentified persons. "We are trying to trace the accused," said a police officer from the CSMT GRP. htc...
