MUMBAI, Sept. 6 -- As his indefinite hunger strike entered its eighth day, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil has intensified his agitation, refusing water, intravenous infusion or any medical treatment till his demands for Maratha reservation are met. The activist has barred doctors from assessing his condition, despite growing concerns over his health. Announcing this on Friday night, Jarange-Patil accused the government of failing to honour its assurances within the promised deadline. He wants the authorities to start issuing Kunbi caste certificates immediately, including to those whose claims for the OBC caste certificate were rejected earlier. Taking a hard line, he said, "I will accept no medical intervention until the government implements my demands for Maratha reservation on the ground. There will be no treatment until there is action."
