'India is becoming an Orwellian state'
India, Oct. 3 -- For 21-year-old filmmaking student Aranya Raghav from Vile Parle, the copy of George Orwell's 1984 he carried to Friday's protest was a symbol of his fears for democracy in India. Raghav pointed to deeply worrying signs. "There seems to be a conscious attempt to undermine our democracy and it shouldn't go unanswered," he said. Raghav described voting as part of a social contract between citizens and the government. "If that social contract is violated and becomes one-sided, who would it benefit eventually?
