Youth stabbed to death in Pratapgarh after minor altercation
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 29 -- A 30-year-old youth was fatally stabbed by a man in Pratapgarh on Wednesday night following a minor altercation. The victim, Harishchandra Saroj, had reportedly slapped the accused, Akhilesh, after Akhilesh allegedly abused him for calling him "mad."
Enraged by the slap, Akhilesh repeatedly stabbed Harishchandra with a knife, striking him on the head, neck, and stomach. Harishchandra immediately collapsed due to severe blood loss.
Upon hearing screams, family members and villagers rushed to the scene and apprehended Akhilesh. The injured youth was swiftly transported to a medical college, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The family of the deceased alleges that Akhilesh is mentally unstable and prone to aggressive behavior, having previously assaulted the victim. Police have launched an investigation based on the family's complaint.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday night in Majhila village under the Dehat Kotwali area of Pratapgarh, during an argument between Harishchandra Saroj (30) and Akhilesh, a resident of Khushi-Ka-Purwa village. Akhilesh was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time of the attack.
Harishchandra succumbed to his injuries within minutes. His family rushed him to the medical college, where he was declared dead. Police were informed and subsequently took Akhilesh into custody.
Additional SP Shailendra Lal stated that the accused's mental condition was not normal and that he was heavily drunk during the incident. Akhilesh has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. The ASP further noted that additional police forces have been deployed in the village to maintain order in light of the tension.
Chandauli Police on Thursday arrested a smuggler and recovered over 1 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs.2 crore. Acting on a tip-off, a police team apprehended the suspect near Mansarovar Pokhara in the early hours of Thursday. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 1.120 kg of heroin and Rs.1,000 in cash, a police officer confirmed.
Circle officer of PDDU Nagar, Krishna Murari Sharma, identified the accused as Sitaram Bhil, a resident of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. He said the seized heroin is valued at approximately Rs.2 crore in the illegal market.
During interrogation, Bhil revealed he had brought the heroin from Rajasthan to Chandauli on the instructions of an unidentified person. He was reportedly en route to deliver the consignment when he was caught....
