Youth returning from hosp killed by speeding vehicle
Lucknow, June 22 -- A 26-year-old man was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing Hardoi Road in Kakori on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Himalaya, a resident of Mandoli village in Kakori, was returning home after visiting his younger brother, Himanshu, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Balaganj following injuries sustained in a fall from a mango tree.
Kakori SHO Satish Chandra Rathore said a case has been registered on the complaint of the victim's father, Shivmangal. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and efforts are underway to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the accident.
According to family members, Himalaya had gone to Era Hospital to deliver food to his brother.
After returning by auto-rickshaw, he got down near Golakuan village and was crossing Hardoi Road on foot around 9 pm when a black colour vehicle coming from the Malihabad side allegedly hit him at high speed.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was thrown several metres into the air before landing on the road. He died on the spot. The driver fled the scene without stopping.
The incident sparked outrage among villagers and the victim's relatives, who placed the body on the road and staged a protest demanding compensation and the arrest of the accusdriver. The demonstration continued for nearly three hours, causing a traffic jam on Hardoi Road....
