Youth overpowers young leopard in Kheri village
Lakhimpur Kheri:, March 17 -- Within 24 hours of Sunday's leopard scare, a sub-adult leopard hiding in a wheat field near Devipurwa village in the Dhaurahra range of the Dudhwa buffer zone charged at a youth, Ankur, while he was working in his field.
Ankur, however, kept his composure and managed to catch hold the animal despite suffering injuries on the fingers and palm of his left hand.
With the help of fellow villagers, he tied the leopard's paws and alerted forest officials, who rushed to the spot and took the animal to the range headquarters.
Deputy field director of the Dudhwa buffer zone, Kirti Chaudhary, confirmed the incident and said the leopard appeared very young and may have been separated from its mother. She said patrolling had been intensified amid apprehensions of other leopard movements in the area.
Meanwhile, another leopard that had injured farmer Rajan Sharma in Rannagar village of north Nighasan range of Dudhwa buffer zone slipped away from a fodder room where it had been hiding since Sunday and escaped into nearby sugarcane fields.
Forest teams had been monitoring the area and kept cages in place.
Deputy director Kirti Chaudhary said the leopard was found missing when the fodder room was inspected in the morning....
