Youth missing after being swept in swollen stream; elderly man drowns in pond
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 10 -- A youth went missing after being swept away by the strong current of a swollen stream while bathing with a friend in the Madhukarpur area in Pratapgarh on Wednesday. Although villagers and local divers launched a search operation, he remained untraced till late Wednesday evening.
According to reports, Satyam Saroj, a resident of Jenvai Bankatwa village, had come to visit his friend Neeraj Patel (19), a resident of Madhukarpur under the Lalganj Kotwali police station limits, on Wednesday afternoon. Later, the two friends went to bathe at Jhaliha Ghat of the stream flowing near the village.
As they entered the water, both were caught in the strong current and began drowning. A villager present at the spot, immediately jumped into the drain and managed to rescue Neeraj. However, Satyam was swept away by the fast-flowing water.
Despite continued efforts, no trace of Satyam had been found till evening.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 60-year-old man, identified as Ramharakh, drowned in a pond near his village in the Baghrai police station area of Pratapgarh. Family members said Ramharakh, a resident of Dhanvasia village, had left home for his routine morning walk at around 5am on Wednesday.
He is believed to have entered deep water in a pond located near the primary school, about 700 meters from his residence, and drowned. When he failed to return home within an hour, relatives began searching for him. Suspecting he might be near the pond, they searched the area and discovered his body about one-and-a-half hours later....
