Youth drugged and robbed during wedding procession in Kaushambi
PRAYAGRAJ, May 18 -- A youth was allegedly drugged and robbed during a wedding procession in Kaushambi district, police said on Sunday. The victim, Andeep Kumar Sonkar, a resident of Tilaknagar in Allapur area of Prayagraj, had gone to attend a friend's wedding procession in Balipur Tata village under the Charwa police station limits.
According to his complaint, an unidentified person allegedly offered him a glass of sharbat mixed with an intoxicating substance during the function. Soon after consuming the drink, he lost consciousness and collapsed.
Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly stole around Rs.17,000 in cash and a Vivo mobile phone from him. After regaining consciousness, Andeep managed to return home, where his family arranged medical treatment for him. Later, while checking his PhonePe account through another mobile phone, he discovered that around Rs.43,920 had been withdrawn through several online transactions using his stolen phone.
The victim submitted a written complaint to the police along with details of the unauthorised transactions. Police said an investigation has started, and efforts are being made to identify the accused and recover the stolen money.
Jewellery and cash worth more than Rs.40 lakh were allegedly stolen from three neighbouring houses in Pratapgarh district on Saturday night, police said.
The incident took place in Dhanaupur village near Birapur market under the Fatanpur police station limits while the residents were sleeping outside their homes due to the heat. Police said the victims Ankit Pandey, Sonu Pandey and Kamla Devi live in adjacent houses. The thieves allegedly entered the homes through the roofs and carried out the thefts unnoticed. At Ankit Pandey's house, jewellery belonging to his wife, Shiksha Pandey, was stolen.
A 62-year-old woman died after falling from a moped and being crushed under a container truck in Pratapgarh district on Sunday morning, police said. The deceased, identified as Surajkali, was a resident of Paharpur village in the Sangipur area. She was returning home with her husband, Ramdeen Rajak, after visiting relatives in Raniganj. The accident took place around 8am near Mohanganj market under the Dehat Kotwali police station limits on the Lucknow-Varanasi Highway.
Police said Ramdeen was trying to overtake a container truck from the left side when Surajkali lost balance and fell onto the road. Her head and one arm came under the rear wheels of the truck, causing her death on the spot.
A property dealer was shot dead inside his office in the Naini police station area of Prayagraj around 4.30 pm on Sunday.
Police said four assailants arrived in a car, directly entered the victim's office near Lagan Vihar Guest House in Madauka area, placed a pistol against his temple, and fired at point-blank range. The victim collapsed, bleeding across the office premises.
Nearby residents and shopkeepers, alerted by the gunshot, rushed to the scene. Police were informed, reached the spot and rushed the man to the District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. An empty cartridge was recovered from the crime scene.
The deceased was identified as Azharuddin, a local property dealer and a resident of Maheva Purwa. His elder brother, Alauddin, stated that Azharuddin had left home on his motorcycle around 3.30 pm and the family received news of his death within an hour.
Senior police officials, including additional commissioner of police (ACP) Ajay Pal Sharma and DCP (Yamunanagar) Vivek Chand Yadav, visited the crime scene. ACP Sharma confirmed that Azharuddin was shot once in the temple.
The body of a man accused of abducting a seven-year-old boy in Jaunpur was found hanging from a tree in Pratapgarh on Sunday afternoon. The abducted child was found nearby in an unconscious condition.
Villagers alerted the police after spotting the body, suspended by a cotton towel (gamchha), in Khakhapur village under the Fatanpur police station area. SHO Manish Tripathi reached the spot, sent the child to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Gaura for treatment, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Jewellery valued at approximately Rs 4.67 lakh was reportedly stolen from a family traveling on the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)-Banaras Express. The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Prayagraj has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident....
