PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 30 -- The body of a 25-year-old man was found near a roadside platform in Sarangapur village in the trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj on Saturday morning. The victim had allegedly been bludgeoned to death with bricks and stones, police said. The deceased was identified as Rahul Bharti, a resident of Pasiyan locality in Sarangapur village under Ghoorpur police station. He worked in the Naini vegetable market and would usually leave home early in the morning and return late at night, police added. According to villagers, Rahul was last seen in the village around midnight on Friday. On Saturday morning, some residents heading towards the highway spotted his body lying on a roadside platform. His head and face had suffered severe injuries, apparently caused by repeated blows with bricks and stones. On receiving information, Ghoorpur station house officer Atul Kumar Mishra reached the spot along with the ACP (Kaudhiyara) and a forensic field unit team. The forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence from around the body. Police subsequently sent the body for a post-mortem examination. A bloodstained piece of brick or stone, suspected to have been used in the killing, was also recovered near the platform and taken into police custody. Police officials said the motive behind the murder had not yet been established. Villagers and family members have so far not disclosed any known dispute involving Rahul.
