Meerut, Aug. 31 -- Sambhal police on Saturday cracked the murder case that took place on August 26 in Kaithal village under Chandausi police station area. Two accused, including a minor and a youth identified as Govind, have been arrested, while the main accused, Sanoj, is still absconding. According to the police, the motive behind the killing was a love affair. During interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that the victim, Sumit, was in a relationship with Sanoj's sister. Despite repeated threats from Sanoj and his friends, Sumit had refused to end the relationship. Earlier, both families had intervened and tried to settle the matter. On the evening of August 25, around 8 pm, Sumit went out for a walk. The three accused lured him towards the forest. There, Sanoj confronted Sumit, asking why he would not leave his sister alone. Sumit replied that he loved Bala and intended to marry her. Enraged, Sanoj instructed his companions to restrain Sumit. Govind held his head while the minor grabbed his legs. Wearing medical gloves, Sanoj slit Sumit's throat with a knife. In the attack, Govind's hand was also injured. After the crime, the accused sought help from Sanoj's friend Pradeep Kumar, where another man, Sher Singh, was also present. They narrated the entire incident and pleaded for protection. Later, during questioning, the accused confessed and led the police to the mustard field from where the knife used in the murder was recovered. ASP Rajesh Kumar Srivastava said that after the murder, the accused had thrown the knife and gloves in a nearby field. While the minor has been sent to a juvenile home, efforts are underway to arrest Sanoj, who already has several criminal cases registered against him.
