Young man slits throat in police lock-up
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 24 -- A young man locked up in the Manikpur police station in Pratapgarh attempted suicide by slitting his throat with a sharp object on Thursday morning. Witnessing the incident, police rushed him to CHC Kalakankar, where doctors referred him to Rae Bareli AIIMS.
CO (Kunda) arrived at the police station and conducted preliminary investigations. Based on the report, SP, Pratapgarh Deepak Bhukar, suspended SHO of Manikpur police station Deepnarayan and ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter.
As per reports, Shivam Singh, 24, son of Nagendra Pratap Singh, a resident of Jamethi village under Kunda police station, had allegedly gone missing from home on October 17.
Manikpur police claimed that Shivam Singh was arrested with a stolen bike on Wednesday night. Following the incident, police claimed that his family was informed about their son having been caught stealing a bike. Meanwhile, after Shivam was injured, his mother, Savitri Devi, went to the police station and was allegedly informed that her son had been challaned. The mother alleged that she was not informed about the incident of her son slitting his throat. CO Amarnath Gupta arrived at the police station and inquired about the incident. He was told that Shivam was brought in on October 20 in connection with a bike theft case. After questioning him, two stolen bikes were recovered. Based on the CO's report, SP Deepak Bhukar suspended SHO Deepnarayan.
ASP (West) Brijnandan Rai informed that an accused was detained with two stolen bikes in the Manikpur police station. The accused attempted to injure himself and has been sent for treatment....
