Young Aarnav upsets sixth seed Sufiyaan in AITA C'ship Series
LUCKNOW, May 19 -- The AITA Championship Series Boys' & Girls' Under-14, kicked off at Vijayant Khand Stadium here on Monday with thrilling action and promising talent on display.
The boys' main-draw first round produced a mix of commanding wins and tense three-set battles that showcased the depth of junior tennis in the state. Top seed Haris Khan asserted his authority with a clinical 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jai Jaiswal, while third seed Yuvraaj Singh cruised past Shivam Verma 6-1, 6-2.
Fourth seed Tejas Singh also impressed, defeating Shivansh 6-1, 6-0. Seeds continued to hold up elsewhere as Adamya Bhadoria (7) beat Ajmeet Singh 6-3, 6-2, and Vibhor Srivastava (8) overcame Asthana Ritvik 6-4, 6-1.
The draw, however, wasn't without upsets and drama-Aarnav Garg pulled off a notable comeback to upset sixth seed Mohd Sufiyaan 0-6, 6-4, 10-8, while Aarav Patel overturned second seed Pavith Singh in a tense 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 decider.
Several matches went the distance, underlining the competitive spirit: Pranav Sharma edged Arnav Srivastava 6-4, 0-6, 10-8; Manas Patel survived 6-3, 1-6, 11-9 against Ekagra Singh; and Rudra Chaurasiya fought back to beat Krishang Sharma 2-6, 6-4, 11-9. Ayushman Pathak and Mohd Hamdan registered convincing straight-set wins, while Atharva Srivastava and Riddhiman Rajput advanced with composed performances.
