Yogi asks ministers to monitor relief work in 17 flood-hit dists
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 28 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, on Wednesday instructed the ministers in-charge of 17 districts to monitor relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas of the respective districts following incessant rainfall and rise in the water level of major rivers.
The flood-affected districts include Ballia, Bahraich, Badaun, Chandauli, Kanpur Nagar, Hardoi, Gonda, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Meerut, Mirzapur, Muzaffarnagar, Unnao, Prayagraj and Varanasi.
Urging public representatives to ensure that no affected families are left unattended, CM directed officials to make arrangements to shift people and cattle trapped in the flood-hit areas to safe places. Till Wednesday, 2.45 lakh people and over 30,000 cattle were relocated. Relief commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami said 37 tehsils and 688 villages were flood affected, covering nearly 27,061 hectares of land. Relief supplies were being delivered with the help of 548 boats and motorboats, he said, adding that 11,350 lunch packets were distributed on Wednesday.
As many as 996 flood posts have been set up in the affected areas. Currently, 284 flood shelters are operational with 4,440 people and 626 medical teams are conducting regular health checkups. The government has distributed over 12,000 chlorine tablets to prevent waterborne diseases, Goswami said, adding that 4,422 ORS packets have been provided....
