Yogi announces jobs for 500 more medal-winning athletes
GORAKHPUR, Aug. 18 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said more than 500 sports persons who had won medals for the country had been provided government jobs in Uttar Pradesh, and announced that another 500 medal-winning athletes would be given employment in the police and other government departments within the next month.
Addressing the final of the state-level wrestling championship, Adityanath said the state's sports culture had undergone a major transformation over the past decade, with initiatives such as Khelo India, Fit India, sports competitions organised by MPs and MLAs, and rural sports leagues creating more opportunities for athletes.
He said Centres of Excellence would be developed at sports colleges to provide specialised training with the help of experienced players and coaches. Private sports academies would also be supported, while traditional wrestling akharas would be registered and provided assistance for mats, infrastructure, coaches and managers.
Adityanath felicitated winners of the Uttar Pradesh Kesari, Uttar Pradesh Kumar and Veer Abhimanyu titles. Akash of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Saurabh of Varanasi and Suraj Yadav of Ghazipur won the three titles respectively and received Rs.1.01 lakh and a mace each. HTC...
