Yamuna laser show halted over Rs.36 lakh diesel dues
PRAYAGRAJ, March 1 -- The laser show held on the Yamuna river between the New and Old bridges in Prayagraj has been suspended following the end of Magh Mela 2026 on February 15. The show resumed during the annual fair and attracted large crowds. However, it has remained closed since Shivratri, the last major bathing festival of the mela. Visitors arriving at the site have been disappointed. Officials have said the show will remain suspended until further notice. No formal reason has been announced. However, sources in the administration said the suspension is due to pending payments.
According to officials, the agency operating the laser show stopped the programme because diesel dues of more than Rs.36 lakh have not been cleared. The agency asked Uttar Pradesh Project Corporation Limited to release the payment to cover fuel costs.
The show operates from Kalighat on the Yamuna and runs on generators. The diesel expenses are borne by the Uttar Pradesh project corporation. As the fuel payments had been pending for several months, the agency decided to halt operations. Suresh Chandra Yadav, general manager of Uttar Pradesh Project Corporation Limited, said a demand for Rs.36 lakh has been sent to the headquarters....
