Women's aspirationshurt: Union minister
Lucknow, April 20 -- Union minister for women and child development Annapurna Devi on Sunday accused the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the DMK of hurting women's aspirations by opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment Bill in Parliament.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state unit office here, she described April 17, when the bill was stalled in Parliament, as a "Black Day" that women across the country will not forget.
The minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, unprecedented work has been done since 2014 for women's economic and social empowerment, and the reservation bill was a concrete step towards political empowerment.
"Women are now aware and empowered. They will respond democratically to those who stand against their rights," she asserted. Targeting Rahul Gandhi, she said that despite being in power for a long time, the Congress failed to give Other Backward Classes (OBCs) their due rights but the NDA government granted constitutional status to the OBC Commission. Accusing the Samajwadi Party of appeasement politics, she said the Constitution does not permit reservation based on religion.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi are engaged in dynastic politics and have no concern for the interests of the country's people, she said....
