Woman's body found in trunk dumped along NH-2 in Kaushambi
PRAYAGRAJ, April 17 -- The body of a woman was found inside a metal trunk allegedly dumped by unidentified people along the NH-2 highway in Kaushambi district, police said on Thursday.
According to officials, the incident came to light around 8 pm on Wednesday when local residents spotted two men arriving in a four-wheeler near Kalyanpur village under Kokhraj police station limits. They were seen dumping a metal trunk by the roadside before fleeing towards Prayagraj. Suspecting foul play, locals promptly alerted the police via the UP 112 helpline.
A police team reached the spot and found the body. The victim is believed to be in her mid-thirties. Preliminary findings suggest she may have been strangled elsewhere, with her body later dumped at the site to destroy evidence.
The body has been sent for postmortem examination, while a forensic team collected evidence from the scene. Additional superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar Singh also inspected the spot soon after the recovery.
Police have constituted five special investigation teams under the supervision of circle officer (Sirathu) Satyendra Kumar Tiwari to crack the case. Teams have reviewed footage from over 60 CCTV cameras along the route from Khaga in Fatehpur district to the Sihori Toll Plaza, but the vehicle used and the suspects have not yet been identified.
Rajendra, a resident of Chakia village, told police that the vehicle had briefly stopped outside his house before the trunk was unloaded and the suspects sped away. Despite extensive searches, the accused have not yet been traced.
The woman remains unidentified. Police have sought help from neighbouring districts and are using social media platforms to circulate information in an effort to establish her identity. ....
