LUCKNOW, June 27 -- Making obscene gestures and hurling abuses, a group of men in a car allegedly chased and harassed a 25-year-old woman from the Samatamulak intersection in Gomti Nagar to the Polytechnic crossing, the police said on Thursday, referring to the FIR lodged in the matter. The incident took place when the woman was returning home on a scooter with her brother on Monday night. The victim lodged a case of harassment and intimidation at the Polytechnic outpost of the Ghazipur (Indiranagar) police station based on the car's registration number on June 24. ACP Ghazipur A Vikram Singh confirmed that a case has been registered. The woman, a resident of Indiranagar currently undergoing nursing training under a doctor, shared her ordeal on the social media platform X, demanding strict action against the perpetrators. She urged for Lucknow to be made safer for women. Giving details of the incident, the woman said in the FIR that after dining out, she, her brother, sister and a friend reached Samatamulak Chowk on separate scooters on the way home. As they proceeded towards Munshi Pulia, a group of young men in a white car began following them, she said in the FIR. Initially, the brother-sister duo ignored the car occupants, but the suspects made offensive gestures and passed vulgar comments, trailing them for about four kilometres, according to the FIR. The car occupants attempted to overtake and stop their scooter near the Polytechnic intersection, according to the victim. When they failed, they rolled down the car window and hurled abuses at the woman in front of her brother. After intimidating the victim, the suspects fled towards the Ring Road, taking advantage of the darkness, according to the woman. However, the siblings noted the car's registration number which has now been traced to Prayagraj RTO, and the police are searching for the suspects. After alerting the authorities via the UP 112, they went to Ghazipur police station. Initial investigation suggests it may be a case of road rage, according to the police. "As per a few CCTV videos, the woman could be seen following the car and abusing as well. We are looking into more details," said ADCP Pankaj Singh...
