PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 22 -- A woman allegedly lost Rs.2.27 lakh to cyber fraudsters while trying to buy a toy car online. In her complaint, Hamida Begum, a resident of Kunda in Pratapgarh, said she came across an advertisement for a toy car on her mobile phone and clicked on it to place an order. According to the complaint, she was subsequently asked to make a series of online payments on various pretexts. After each transaction, the fraudsters allegedly demanded additional payments. The woman claimed she eventually transferred a total of Rs.2,27,793 in 20 online transactions to three different numbers. After realising she had allegedly been duped, she filed an online complaint with the Cyber Cell and submitted a complaint at Kotwali police station. Station house officer (SHO) inspector Arvind Kumar Singh said police suspect that the fraud may have originated from a link forwarded by fraudsters and that matter was being investigated.
