woman forces infant daughter to drink acid; child critical
Alwar, May 20 -- A woman has been accused of forcing her eight-month-old daughter to drink acid in Bhiwadi's Captain Chowk area, police said, leaving the child critically injured and hospitalised.
According to the police, the woman's husband, Mohit, said he left for work in the morning and the infant and her mother were alone at home. He alleged that during that time, the mother "forced the baby to drink acid".
The motive has not been established and an inves- tigation is under way, police added.
Dr Rashi Kaushik of Alwar Children's Hospital confirmed the infant was brought in "in a serious condition" and that "allegations of acid consumption had emerged in the case". She said the child was under constant medical supervision and remained extremely critical on ventilator support.
Bhiwadi Additional SP Shreeman Meena said police received information that the child was allegedly given acid by her mother.
He said investigators were trying to establish what led to the incident....
