Rudrapur, March 6 -- An 18-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in a village under Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar on Wednesday, with the police suspecting it to be a case of suicide, an official aware of the matter said on Thursday. Sub-inspector Chandan Bisht said the preliminary inquiry suggests the woman took the extreme step after being scolded by her mother over a domestic matter. "The woman was found hanging from the roof of her house and was rushed to the district hospital by her relatives, where doctors declared her dead," he said. "The woman's relatives initially took the body from the hospital without completing the post-mortem formalities," the sub-inspector said. He added: "The relatives of the deceased forcibly took her body from the district hospital without a post-mortem examination. Police later brought the body back and it was handed over to the family after the post-mortem on Thursday," Bisht said. Police said a PRD jawan deployed at the hospital had shifted the body to the mortuary after doctors declared her dead, but the relatives allegedly took it back to their village before police could arrive. After receiving information, police reached the village, took the body into custody and sent it for autopsy on Thursday. The body was later handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination, said Bisht. Police said her family members are being interrogated and the actual cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report....
