Kota, Oct. 18 -- A 40-year-old woman died while undergoing treatment following a caesarean section at Kota's New Medical College Hospital, police said on Saturday, adding that a case has been registered based on a complaint by her family alleging negligence. The family of the woman, identified as Reshma (40), accused doctors and nursing staff of negligence and filed a complaint at Mahavir Nagar police station. Hospital authorities said her family took her to a private hospital despite being informed about the seriousness of her condition and brought her back on Friday after she deteriorated further. Hospital superintendent Dr Ashutosh Sharma said, "Reshma was admitted on October 13. The following morning, she developed severe pain around her previous caesarean scar, prompting doctors to perform an emergency caesarean section. She delivered a baby boy." Sharma said this was Reshma's fourth delivery and that her three previous deliveries had also been through caesarean sections. Following the procedure, she developed mild bleeding, while her blood pressure and oxygen saturation dropped rapidly. A nephrologist and an anaesthesia team were brought in after she stopped producing urine. "Her family subsequently took her to a private hospital but returned when her condition worsened. She died during treatment despite efforts to save her." The exact cause of death will be established once the autopsy report is received, circle inspector Harendra Singh said, adding that a case has been registered under relevant sections. The family alleged that her condition deteriorated soon after she was shifted to the general ward and an injection was administered. They claimed her body turned blue as she developed severe complications, including urinary problems. The family also alleged that despite her critical condition and the need for dialysis, hospital authorities initially refused to provide the procedure and asked them to seek treatment elsewhere. They subsequently shifted her to a private hospital before bringing her back to the NMCH on Friday. Meanwhile, another woman, Anita, 30, was shifted to the ICU at the medical college's Super Specialty Block on Thursday after developing complications following a caesarean delivery. Her relative Shyam Lal said she developed severe breathing difficulties and stopped producing urine. "Anita, a resident of Sultanpur, was shifted to the nephrology ward on the evening of October 15," Sharma said. Earlier, on May 5, 12 women suffered kidney failure following caesarean sections at two government hospitals in Kota. Five of them - Payal, Jyoti, Pinky, Priya and Shirin - died.
