PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 9 -- A young woman climbed a mobile phone tower in Umariya Badal alias Gainda village on Tuesday morning, allegedly insisting that she be allowed to marry her boyfriend. The incident drew a crowd, while police and local residents continued efforts to persuade her to climb down till late evening. However, the woman remained adamant that her boyfriend be brought before her. According to police, the woman, a resident of the Nawabganj area, had been in a relationship with a youth from the Mauaima area. The man had refused to marry her about a year ago, following which a panchayat was held between the two families. When no resolution was reached, the woman lodged a case against him. Police subsequently filed a chargesheet in the case before the court. The youth was granted anticipatory bail by the court and is currently working for a company in Pune, police said. Meanwhile, local residents claimed that two people arrived on a motorcycle early Tuesday morning and dropped the woman near the mobile tower. She subsequently climbed the tower, they said.
