PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 26 -- A young woman has been accused of staging a harassment incident in Prayagraj, fabricating a story about having her stole pulled by motorcycle-borne youths to gain social media followers. A police investigation, including the review of CCTV footage, found no evidence to support her claims. In a video posted on September 23, the woman alleged that while riding her scooter from Muirabad Crossing toward the Cantonment area, three men on a motorcycle pulled her stole, nearly causing her to fall. She further claimed to have reported the matter to the police control room and the local Cantonment police station. The video went viral, prompting an immediate police inquiry. However, officials stated that no such complaint had been received by the control room, women's helpline, or the local station. After reviewing CCTV footage from the area and interviewing local residents, the police concluded that the incident never occurred. Upon identifying and questioning the woman, officers reported that she provided conflicting accounts before admitting to the fabrication. She allegedly confessed that she orchestrated the story to boost engagement on her social media profiles. Following the investigation, she released a subsequent video admitting to the falsehood and apologising.
