Woman, 3 sons booked over protest, road blockade
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 4 -- Police on Saturday registered a case against one Poonam Dubey, her three sons and around 50 others following Friday's protest in Civil Lines over a land issue. During the protest, she climbed a water tank while others supporting her blocked Kanpur Road, disrupting traffic for hours.
Officials repeatedly tried to persuade her to come down. The road reopened after several hours, while Dubey remained atop the tank for nearly 17 hours. Police have booked Dubey and her sons, Priyanshu, Himanshu and Divyanshu, under the Criminal Law Amendment (CLA) Act and other relevant provisions. Around 50 unidentified people were also named as accused in the case.
Cyber fraudsters allegedly siphoned off around Rs 3.25 lakh from the bank accounts and credit cards of four people, including the personal security officer (PSO) of a high court judge. The fraudsters allegedly targeted the victims through fake reward-point links, cards stuck in ATMs and phone calls where they posed as bank officials and persuaded victims to download mobile applications. Following complaints, cases have been registered at Colonelganj, Shivkuti and Cantt police stations in Prayagraj, and a probe is underway. In Cantt area, Dhananjay Bharti, PSO to a judge, allegedly received a call from a person claiming to be a bank employee. The caller allegedly persuaded him to download an app, following which Rs 1.20 lakh was debited from his credit card in three transactions.
In another incident, around Rs 70,000 was withdrawn from the account of Govindpur resident Chunmun Rai after his card got stuck in a PNB ATM.
Mayo Road resident Preeti Johri was allegedly duped after receiving a link purportedly from SBI YONO on August 18. After she opened the link and entered her details, Rs 1,00,784 was debited from her account.
Similarly, Kaushambi resident Bhanudev Tiwari's card got stuck in an SBI ATM at Rasulabad in Prayagraj. Before he could get it blocked, Rs 33,900 was withdrawn from his account.
Ravi Vishwakarma climbed a Jal Nigam water tank near Basna Nala on the Phaphamau Bypass in Prayagraj on Saturday afternoon, alleging police inaction over a land encroachment dispute. Phaphamau police and ACP Tharwai Ajendra Yadav reached the spot and persuaded him to come down after nearly two hours. He was subsequently handed over to Holagarh police.
A 30-year-old woman seriously injured in an alleged assault following a dispute over goats damaging a vegetable crop died during treatment at a private hospital in Lucknow on Saturday evening.
Rita Kesarwani of Takht-ka-Purva village of Pratapgarh was injured in the September 22 incident along with her sister-in-law Aarti. The dispute allegedly broke out after goats entered and damaged a vegetable crop.
Following the incident, Aarti lodged a case against fellow villagers Santlal, Siyalal, Shivmurat and Kallu. Santlal was subsequently arrested. Maheshganj station officer Rahul Kumar said further action would be taken after receiving the post-mortem report....
