LUCKNOW, Aug. 24 -- Lucknow University has seen a record number of applications from international students this year of which a significant number came from Bangladesh. About 41.65% students, 1,425 applications of the total 3,421 applications received at Lucknow University this year, came from Bangladeshi students. Hindustan Times talked to these students, who, after clearing various stages of screening, enrolled in various courses. They unanimously said that the quality of education and standards of living led them to get an admission in India. Ankita Dey Bishti, 28, a PhD student who enrolled in Journalism and Mass Communication department this year said that she is not new to the country but it was her past experience at Banaras Hindu University during her postgraduation, which built a trust in the Indian education system. "I felt that when we come to India, we are cordially treated and we are provided with quality education and a good lifestyle. We are provided with proper guidance and directions as and when needed which made me choose India over any other country to complete my PhD. Getting the ICCR scholarship twice is rare and I feel fortunate enough to receive it. I got to know about Lucknow University's department of journalism from my teachers and friends at BHU. It feels really great to represent my country and become the first research scholar from Bangladesh to pursue PhD in this department," said Bishti. Rimon Vai, 24, who enrolled in MA Economics said that he pursued graduation at Kurukshetra University. "I felt the need to explore and learn more about Indian culture which made me come here again. I am fortunate to get selected at Lucknow University. It is like a learning curve which would for sure help me in overall development from studies to cooking, going out and meeting new people which would not have been possible if I would have lived at home. It is empowering me and will for sure make me future-ready," said Vai. Dherain Vijayan, 22, a student from Sri Lanka who enrolled for an MBA, said that he feels that the education system is far better here than his native place. "I like to live and study here and I chose India over other countries because as of the current scenario it is one of the most rapidly developing countries. Besides, we get a good amount of scholarship and facilities here," said Vijayan....
