waterholes in Terai forest to be filled with solar borewells
Rudrapur, April 19 -- The Terai East forest division has installed three solar-powered borewells to keep waterholes filled in forest areas, aimed at providing a steady water source for wild animals during the summer, officials said.
"These waterholes were earlier filled using tankers. In the first phase, we have installed three solar panel-based borewells in major waterholes. With this, the waterholes will remain filled round the clock," said Himanshu Bagri, divisional forest officer (DFO), Terai East forest division in Kumaon.
Officials said the Terai foothill region is rich in wildlife, but water scarcity during summer often leads to animals straying into human settlements, increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict. htc...
