Wanted criminal arrested after SUV overturns during police chase in Lko
LUCKNOW, June 1 -- A wanted criminal accused in an attempted murder case in Ayodhya was arrested in Lucknow on Sunday after the SUV he was travelling in overturned into a roadside drain while he was allegedly trying to evade police during a chase, officials said.
The accused, Rohan Singh, a resident of Anjrauli Pure Bediyan village in Ayodhya's Khandasa area, was wanted in connection with a recent assault and attempted murder case registered at Kumar Ganj police station. Police said he had been absconding since being named in the case.
Acting on intelligence inputs regarding his location, Ayodhya police launched a joint operation with personnel from BKT, Mahingwa and Sarojini Nagar police stations in Lucknow. Rohan was travelling in an SUV when he realised police teams were closing in on him and attempted to flee. During the pursuit in the Mahingwa area, the vehicle went out of control and overturned into a drain, officials said, adding Rohan crawled out of the vehicle and tried to escape on foot. He was chased and arrested after a brief pursuit. The case stems from a complaint by Sheetla Prakash Pandey, who alleged that Rohan and his associates attacked him at his residence on May 21. An FIR was later registered against Rohan, Himanshu and four unidentified persons on charges including attempt to murder.
Meanwhile, a Class 11 student was killed and his cousin critically injured after an unidentified vehicle rammed into their motorcycle in Indira Nagar area on Saturday night, police said.
According to officials, the deceased, Anas, a resident of Kalyanpur, was moving towards Munshipulia with his younger cousin, Ayan, when an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed their bike near Sector 25 under the Indira Nagar police station limits around 10 pm and sped off the scene.
Police rushed them to a hospital after being alerted by local residents. Anas later succumbed to injuries, while Ayan's condition is said to be critical. htc...
