Haridwar, Sept. 11 -- Concerned over dangerous potholes that have surfaced on roads during the ongoing monsoon season, several volunteers and youths have taken up the task of filling them across key arterial roads in Rishikesh, using their personal savings to fund the repair work. For the past five days, youths associated with the Himadri Foundation have been on the streets carrying gravel, cold mix and shovels to repair potholes that they said were posing a serious risk to commuters, particularly emergency vehicles. Prateek Verma of the Himadri Foundation said the citizen-led repair drive had addressed critical and accident-prone stretches at five key locations the AIIMS Road corridor and the City Centre area. "The state of city roads has led to severe daily disruptions, damage to private vehicles, and hazardous delays for ambulances ferrying critical patients. The foundation emphasises that piecemeal citizen efforts cannot substitute for institutional responsibility, and persistent official apathy risks entirely eroding public trust in civic governance," Verma said....
