VARANASI, Oct. 18 -- A Varanasi court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking a police FIR against Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Sikh community during his visit to the USA in September 2024. The plea was filed by Nageshwar Mishra, former village head of Tilmapur, on September 26, 2024, alleging that Gandhi's statement was a conspiracy to incite civil unrest in India. In November 2024, additional chief judicial magistrate (IV) (MP-MLA court) Neeraj Kumar Tripathi had initially rejected the plea. Following this, Mishra filed a revision petition in the district and sessions court, which directed the lower court to re-hear the plea. Advocate Anuj Yadav, who represented Rahul Gandhi, said that after hearing arguments from both sides, additional chief judicial magistrate (IV) (MP-MLA court) Neeraj Kumar Tripathi again rejected the plea. "The fight is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear his turban or a 'kada' in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going to be able to go to Gurdwara. That's what the fight is about, and not just for him, but for all religions," Rahul Gandhi had reportedly stated during his USA visit last year....
