Vns authorities convene peace committee meeting ahead of Muharram
Varanasi, June 18 -- A district-level peace committee meeting was held on Wednesday at the Traffic Police Line auditorium to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Muharram observances. The session was presided over by police commissioner Mohit Agarwal and district magistrate (DM) Satyendra Kumar, and was attended by religious leaders, Imams, Tazia organisers and members of the Civil Defence.
During the meeting, the district magistrate conducted individual interactions with committee members to address their specific concerns and directed relevant departments to resolve them promptly. Emphasising the need for respectful observance, the DM urged organisers to maintain traditional practices, ensure Tazia heights adhere to prescribed standards, and restrict processions to established routes. He further cautioned against introducing any new traditions that might hurt sentiments.
To ensure public safety and order, participants were instructed not to display weapons during processions and to keep the volume of DJ systems within reasonable limits. Officials were also ordered to visit Tazia sites to verify security measures, repair non-functional RO plants and handpumps, and ensure adequate water tanker coverage....
