VARANASI, Sept. 27 -- The Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) has started a doorstep e-waste collection facility in the city. Residents can book a pickup for old and discarded electronic items through a QR code or by calling the helpline number 8335955000. The VNN has authorised Admybin to handle the safe disposal and recycling of the city's growing electronic waste. The main aim of the initiative is to prevent old and defunct electronic devices from mixing with general waste and ensure their environmentally friendly recycling. Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal said e-waste will now be collected from doorsteps across the city. The agency will provide fair compensation to citizens or institutions when it collects the e-waste. Special awareness sessions and collection drives will also be held to educate people about proper e-waste disposal. The service will not be limited to households. The VNN has appealed to residents of Kashi not to allow old electronic items to become a problem in the future. Residents have been advised to keep e-waste separate and not mix it with wet or dry general waste. They have also been asked to hand it over only to the authorised agency. E-waste pickup can be booked through the QR code or by calling 8335955000. Under the campaign, all types of e-waste will be collected. These include computers, laptops, monitors, mobile phones, tablets, printers, scanners, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, geysers, microwave ovens, kitchen appliances, batteries, cells, chargers, cables, networking equipment such as routers and switches, stabilisers, inverters, UPS units, circuit boards (PCBs), home theatre systems, audio systems, and televisions, including LED, LCD and CRT sets. To hand over e-waste, residents must first contact the agency through the helpline number or QR code. A convenient date and time for pickup will then be scheduled. At the appointed time, the Admybin team will reach the location, collect the e-waste and provide fair compensation for it. Finally, the collected e-waste will be sent through authorised channels for safe handling and scientific recycling.s...
