Violence mars Ambedkar Jayanti events in Lko, Kheri
LUCKNOW/LAKHIMPUR KHERI, April 15 -- Violence broke out during Ambedkar Jayanti events in Lucknow and Lakhimpur Kheri districts on Tuesday following disputes over rituals and statue installation, leaving several injured and prompting police action.
In Lucknow's Banthra area, a disagreement over the sequence of rituals allegedly led to a clash when Ranjeet Rawat reportedly garlanded an Ambedkar statue before a planned Buddha prayer. The argument escalated into stone-pelting and assault with sticks and bricks. Three persons were injured. Police denied any gunshot injuries and said a case was registered against both sides. Seven accused have been arrested, said Amit K Anand, DCP South.
In Lakhimpur Kheri's Bankeyganj, violence allegedly erupted over attempts to install an Ambedkar statue. The mob reportedly engaged in stone-pelting and arson, damaging vehicles. Police used mild force to disperse the crowd. DM Durga Shakti Nagpal said the situation is now under control....
